This initial phase was designed to recharge and recover up to 60,000 acre-feet per year of Colorado River water delivered via the Central Arizona Project. Using 3.5 sq miles of formerly agricultural land, the project dramatically increases the amount of CAP water recovered, provides opportunities for water banking, and generally increases access to potable water in the area.
